Trip to Hawaiian Chieftain & Lady Washington and the Bodega Headlands

We had the privilege going on the Hawaiian Chieftain for a tour and to learn about a sailor's life.

The trade routes between the US and China and Europe included trading fur and tea.
Maggie and Hanna with their friend, Nina.

We saw all the tools for navigation and learned about how boring the days were--lots of waiting, making/mending rope...
Next we set sail with the Lady Washington for a few hours. There was a lot of work to do with all the lines.

Heave, ho, heave, ho...

Some of the swells were big--hold on!

Lily helps pull too.

Time to sing some sailor shanties like "Chicken on a Raft."

Here is "Martha" at the bow.
We enjoyed going to Bodega Head after we disembarked.

Blue heron
We found a nice beach.
There were loads of caterpillars there.
We had lots of fun climbing.
